Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort

Glass igloos, Northern Lights, and the magic of Arctic wellness

About Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort

Nestled deep within Finnish Lapland, just 250 kilometers north of the Arctic Circle, Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort is one of the world's most extraordinary wellness destinations. Famous for its thermal glass igloos — designed so guests can watch the Aurora Borealis from the warmth of their bed — this resort transforms the harsh Arctic wilderness into a sanctuary of wonder and relaxation.

Founded in 1973 by Jussi Eiramo, the resort has evolved from a modest roadside stop into a globally renowned retreat. The glass igloos feature specially engineered thermal glass that prevents frosting, offering unobstructed views of the Lapland sky. Whether the Northern Lights are painting the heavens in green and violet, or a million stars pierce the polar darkness, the experience is nothing short of transcendent.

The spa facilities complement the Arctic setting perfectly. Traditional Finnish saunas are heated with local birch wood, and guests can step directly from the sauna into the crisp Arctic air — or roll in fresh snow, a time-honored Finnish wellness tradition. The resort also offers ice hole swimming for the truly adventurous.

Beyond wellness, Kakslauttanen provides a full spectrum of Lapland activities: husky safaris, reindeer sleigh rides, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, and guided Northern Lights hunts. Each day ends with a return to warmth, silence, and the gentle glow of the Arctic night sky.
